  • Upon the track’s swift rise in popularity, “Let’s Get It On” became the name of his thirteenth studio album released two months later.
  • Marvin Gaye and fellow American singer-songwriter Ed Townsend wrote the hit collaboratively after the initial idea came to Townsend after release from an alcohol rehabilitation program.
  • Townsend initially wrote “Let’s Get It On” with religious undertones! However, after working on the lyrics together with Gaye, the song became the passionate ode to love and sex recognized today.
  • Jon Landau, music critic and record producer, said of the song: “‘Let’s Get It On’ is a classic Motown single, endlessly repeatable and always enjoyable.”
  • To this day, the track remains one of Marvin Gaye’s most commercially and critically successful hits.
  • “Let’s Get It On” reached the number one spot on Billboard’s Pop Singles chart in September 1973.
