The runner/chaser dynamic is common, yet nonetheless emotionally exhausting to be in the midst of.

For those unfamiliar, the runner/chaser dynamic involves one partner (the runner) repeatedly distancing themselves from the connection, leaving the other (the chaser) in a state of confusion and longing.

What causes this dynamic to occur and reoccur cyclically?

Overwhelming Intensity

The connection between twin flames is incredibly intense, typically described as a soul-deep bond unlike any other previous relationship.

This intensity can be overwhelming for the runner, especially if they are not ready to confront the deep emotions with it. The profound nature of the connection can trigger fears and insecurities, prompting the runner to distance themselves as a coping mechanism.

Unresolved Emotional Wounds

Twin flame relationships often act as mirrors, reflecting each partner’s deepest fears, insecurities, and unresolved emotional wounds. For the runner, this can be particularly challenging.

The relationship can bring to the surface past traumas and emotional pain that they may not be prepared to face.
